So that led me to pick up an ER-X because it was super cheap. I'm used to either a Cisco or Juniper style CLI, and Mikrotik is another creature altogether. People rave about Winbox, but I don't see what's so great about it whatsoever, it looks like it's from 1994. Also, you go through some of the steps on the wiki, and then they have a note at the end saying 'oh wait, don't do it that way anymore, use THIS method instead.' Aside from that, I find the GUI to be pretty ass-backwards and the CLI is a bit confusing as well. So everyone will keep referring you to their crappy wiki and you're never knowing for sure if the instructions are for the right switch chip on your particular device. The issue with them is that depending on which device you have and which switch chip it contains, the configuration can be vastly different. I haven't given up hope completely though. Turns out VLANs are a nightmare on Mikrotik, or at least it's very difficult to wrap your head around.
